Gregor Purcell

Gregor is an experienced practitioner who was called to the bar in 1997 following service in HM Armed Forces. His practice involves all aspects of Crown Court work including serious violence, sexual offences drugs and dishonesty.

Gregor is a member of the Midlands Circuit and regularly appears in the Crown Courts throughout the East Midlands having moved to Nottingham in 2003 after practice in Teeside on the North Eastern Circuit.

Recent Cases

R. v TL Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) [2018] EWCA Crim 1821 31 Jul 2018. A prosecution appeal to the Court of Appeal following a terminating ruling and stay of proceedings in the Crown Court. The case was heard before the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett, Mr Justice Davis and Mr Justice Nicklin and involved aspects of criminal procedure and evidence where abuse of process had been argued in a case concerning child sex offences and entrapment.

R. v Last (Richard Thomas) Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) [2018] EWCA Crim 1674 10 Jul 2018. A conjoined reference by the Attorney General for undue leniency and appeal against sentence in a case of manslaughter regarding issues of culpability.

R v Karam (Mawawe Ibrahim) Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) [2013] EWCA Crim 138 24 Jan 2013. A sentencing appeal involving applications of the sentencing guidelines in a case of rape.

R v Rainford (Denim Denver) Court of Appeal (Criminal Division) [2010] EWCA Crim 3220 17 Nov 2010. A sentencing appeal regarding reduction in sentence for plea in a Manslaughter / Murder case involving issues of provocation and self defence.
