William Bennett

William qualified as a solicitor in 1995. He practised in the fields of licensing law and criminal law, before devoting his time exclusively to criminal cases with a move to a specialist criminal firm in 2001.

Having decided that he wanted to develop a practice in higher courts advocacy he obtained Higher Rights of Audience in 2010 and over the next fourteen years he developed a strong reputation as an able Crown Court Advocate working in house for a specialist criminal firm covering cases all over the East Midlands. His practice covered all types of criminal work but with an emphasis on defending in sexual cases, including historic allegations and those cases involving particularly vulnerable witnesses. 
 
A familiar figure in Derby and Nottingham Crown Courts, in 2024 after 29 years as a solicitor he cross-qualified and joined the Bar, and Castle Gate Chambers.
 
As a former duty-solicitor William has an in depth understanding of advising and defending people at all stages of the Criminal justice System from the police station and Magistrate’s Courts through to the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. His is a straightforward approach to each case with a caring approach to each client.
